Pre-operative eye examination

The pre-exam will cost you between 20 and 40 Euro. Sometimes ‘specials’ are available. The fee applies also if the result of the examination is that in your case LASIK surgery is not recommended. You can’t use the results of the eye examination of one facility to at any other LASIK clinics, unless, possibly, if they belong to the same group. Better ask before if you think about let’s say have the exam in Bangkok and the operation in Phuket.

Surgical fees

LASIK fees usually include all the check-ups after the operation and in some cases the medication (eye drops) you need to apply. Sometimes we get special discount offers for MediThai.net visitors. You will find them on the page of recommenden facilites.

The LASIK price structure is somewhat confusing since most facilities offer 3 types of LASIK treatments with meaningless names along the lines of ‘super’, ‘super super’ and ‘super super super’. Interestingly enough the laser used is the same, it’s just the software that drives it which is different. Hmmmm. This does not mean that the doctors always try to talk you into the most expensive version. In the case of yours truly for example, the eye doctor suggested, that ‘super’ is good enough, since the correction required was rather small. When asked if ‘super super super’ wouldn’t be better in any case, the answer was ambigouos. So ‘super’ it was and the results were just fine. The above prices are in Euro and they are averages. The price difference between the clinics recommended in Bangkok’s top clinics is small. At the time of writing they were all in a range of plus-minus 20% of the above prices. Check their web sites for the latest offers but, given the closeness of the prices, we believe that the price should not be a major factor when chosing a facility in Thailand. The big money saver is the decision to have LASIK done in Thailand, as opposed to most other countries.
