LASIK Thailand – Bangkok’s Top Clinics
Listing logic
It will always be subjective and … a great surgeon doesn’t need a fancy building. That’s all true. Everything else being equal, chances that you meet very good surgeons are higher at well managed clinics with modern equipment. Just ask yourself where you would work if you were good enough that you can choose to work where you want.
And the winners are…
TRSC International LASIK Center
Specialized in LASIK surgery this dedicated facility in Silom, Bangkok, is in a class of its own. They claim to be the biggest LASIK center in Asia and it’s believable. Any time you go there you will meet numerous other foreigners waiting for their pre-exam, their surgery or their check-up. The center appears to have very clear procedures for the whole process and it starts the moment you enter. You will be assigned an assistant who accompanies you through the various stages. TRSC also has the best multi-media presentations with clear expanations of the procedure and the risks involved. People fly in from all over Asia and Europe to undergo LASIK surgery here. The service is great and everybody seems to speak excellent English. Enough said, you get the idea that we consider this place the number one.
Something to add: I recently got contacted by the TRSC (they know me since I had my surgery there) and was offered a promotion for MediThai.net visitors: Just for dropping our name (MediThai) you will get a 2,000 Baht discount on your surgery. For this to work, the easiest way is to book your appointment via DJ, their international patient counseling manager. The TRSC is located on 6th Floor, U Chu Liang Bldg. 968 Rama IV Rd. Silom,Bangkok 10500 (map) Tel: (662) 733 2020
Bumrungrad Hospital – LASIK Center
The most famous of Bangkok Hospitals offers a full range of medical a-la-carte services. it’s a 5 Billion Bath, operation with a strong focus on international clients. In their annual report they claim that more than 50% of their revenue comes from foreigners. They are listed on the Thai stock exchange and claim to be the biggest private hospital in South-East Asia. It prides itself to be the first Asian hospital accredited by the JCIA. Many of the medical tourism type arrangements involve the Bumrungrad International. Their LASIK center is less flashy than the TRSC and has a smaller through-put (number of patients) but especially if you also think to have some dental work done in Bangkok, the Bumrungrad might be a convenient choice, since their dental offices are on the same floor in the same building as the LASIK center. Bumrungrad Hospital, 33 Sukhumvit 3 (Soi Nana Nua), Wattana, Bangkok (map), Tel: (662) 667 1555 (find a collection of pictures about the Bumrungrad Hospital here)
Laser Vision – Professional LASIK Center
A friendly dedicated LASIK facility fully prepared to deal with international customers. They have glossy brochures in English and staff especially trained to deal with foreigners. They will show you testimonial collections to show you that many others have been there before you and always left with improved vision. All in all this facility is of a slightly lower standard (staff, printed materials, website, facilities) than the above TRSC but worth to check out. If you prefer a smaller facility, this place might be what you are looking for. 49/1 Laser Vision Building., Soi. Vipawadee Rangsit 38,
Ladyao, Chatuchak, Bangkok 10900 (map) Tel : (662) 939 5495
Rutnin-Gimbel Excimer Laser Eye Centre
The Rutnin Eye Hospital is Thailand’s biggest private hospital secializing exclusively in ophtalmology. With it’s about 30 surgeons this hospital has specialists for every sub-speciality of eye medicine. This is a real difference to especially the dedicated LASIK centers, which specialize on LASIK, the procedure which can generates more income than most other medical procedures. You will also find the approach to LASIK here a little more conservative than at the specialized centers: they don’t recommend having the pre-exam and surgery on the same day, they ask you not to wear soft contact lenses for one week before the pre-exam, they ask you not to drive a car for two days after the surgery, etc. – similar to the other places, but we found them a bit more strict. The Rutnin-Gimbel Excimer Laser Eye Center is on the 2nd floor of the Rutnin Eye Hospital, 80/1 Sukhumvit 21 Road (Soi Asoke), Bangkok 10110, (map) Tel. (662) 639 3399
Bangkok Hospital LASIK Center
Worth a consideration if you are looking for a number of different treatments including LASIK.
And the others are…
Crystal Laser Center
If you search the internet you will also find their website advertising LASIK. Don’t bother. They are currently not offering LASIK in Bangkok, but have not had changed their website. When we visited, they explained that they are planning to offer LASIK again, together with their other offerings, which are aroma therapy, hair removal, tooth whitening and botox. Hmmm. If a place that advertises Crystal Laser Hair Removal because ‘removing out the body hair covered to get clearer and brighter skin is now popular’ instills trust in you check it out. Drop us a note if you want to share your experience.
